Milwaukee Brewers Week In Review (8/6-8/13)

8/7/2017 – Twins won 5-4 over the Brewers

Keon Broxton started the offense with a solo home-run in the 3rd inning.  The inning continued with an RBI single from Travis Shaw that actually scored two runs because of a Byron Buxton fielding error.  Broxton picked up yet another RBI in the 4th inning to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead.  However, the bullpen couldn’t hold on to the lead, giving up 4 unanswered runs to allow the Twins to win 5-4.  Buddy Boshers got the win for the Twins, and Oliver Drake took a loss and a blown save.

8/8/2017 – Twins won 11-4 over the Brewers

It was basically a home-run derby for the Twins, who hit 5 of them, including two from Max Kepler and a grand slam from Brian Dozier.  Matt Garza, who took the loss, gave up 8 runs in 3 1/3 innings.  Jeremy Jeffress couldn’t stop the bleeding, giving up 2 more runs in 1 2/3 innings.  Broxton, Villar, Santana, and Braun all picked up an RBI in the loss.

We will just call this one the Bartolo Colon show.  He got the win by going 7 scoreless innings, only giving up 5 total hits.  Woodruff took a tough loss after pitching well – giving up only 2 runs.  Ryan Braun continued to hit well vs the Twins with 2 hits.

The Twins jumped on Zach Davies early in the game leading 6-2 after 3 innings.  The Brewer’s bats were silenced yet again.  Keon Broxton hit a solo home-run in the 2nd inning.  Jesus Aguilar earned an RBI after a bases loaded walk in the 3rd inning, but the Brewers couldn’t cash in on anymore runs. Alan Busenitz got the win for the Twins and Zach Davies took the loss for the Brewers.

8/11/2017 – Reds won 11-10 over the Brewers

Looking at Homer Bailey’s ERA coming into this game, you would imagine a high scoring game…and that’s exactly what happened.  The Reds had a 10-2 lead after 4 innings.  That’s when we cue the Brewer’s comeback attempt.  A wild 3rd inning saw the Brewers score 7 runs to make it a 10-9 game.  However, they weren’t able to complete the comeback and lost 11-10.  Villar & Pina each had 2 RBI.  Thames hit a 3 run home-run and Sogard & Perez each picked up an RBI.  Homer Bailey got the win and Jimmy Nelson took the loss.

8/12/2017 – Brewers won 6-5 over the Reds (10 innings)

Three different Brewers went yard: Travis Shaw (3 run home-run), Ryan Braun (solo home-run) and Eric Thames (solo home-run).  Eric Sogard scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on a wild pitch.  Corey Knebel got the win and Tim Adleman took the loss.

8/13/2017 – Brewers won 7-4 over the Reds

Ryan Braun started off the offense with an RBI double in the 1st inning, and came around to score on a Neil Walker (making his Brewer’s debut) single.  Pina hit a ground-rule double to make it a 3 run 1st.  Hernan Perez got an RBI sac fly in the 4th inning, and Domingo Santana hit an insurance 3 run home-run to put the game away in the 5th inning.

Rough week for the Brewers who went 2-5 in their 7 games this week.  As of 8/14/2017 they are in third place in the NL Central – 2 games behind the Cubs.  They next host the Pirates at home for 2 games.

Milwaukee Brewers Week In Review (7/31-8/6)

This is just a post to share the Milwaukee Brewer’s last week of results.  The reason behind these type of posts are to help keep me engaged as a fan.  If others enjoy reading these type of posts, then kudos to you!

8/2/17 – Cardinals won 5-4 over the Brewers

Brewers trailed 5-1 going into the 7th inning, but couldn’t muster up a complete comeback. 7th inning RBI single from Hernan Perez and 8th inning 2 run home-run from Jesus Aguilar.  Weaver picked up the win, and Rosenthal got his 7th save.  Suter took his 2nd loss. Eric Thames hit his 25th home-run.

8/3/17 – Brewers won 2-1 over Cardinals

Matt Garza got his 5th win of the season and Corey Knebel picked up another save, his 20th.  The losing pitcher was Cecil. Brewers got a solo home-run from Aguilar and RBI single from Broxton.

8/4/17 – Brewers won 2-0 over Rays

Big day for Brandon Woodruff.  He earned his first career MLB win, and Corey Knebel picked up yet another save, his 21st.  RBI single from Eric Thames and solo home-run from Orlando Arcia. Faria took the loss for the Rays.

8/5/17 – Brewers won 3-0 over Rays

Yet another great pitching performance for the Brewers.  Zach Davies picked up his team leading 13th win of the season, and Anthony Swarzak got his 2nd save.  It was a 1-0 game, thanks to an RBI double from Arcia, going into the 9th inning.  That’s when Hernan Perez hit a 2 run home-run to insure the Brewer’s victory.  Cobb took the loss for the Rays.

8/6/17 – Rays won 2-1 over the Brewers

Another pitcher’s duel, and came down to the battle of bullpens.  Orlando Arcia hit a solo home-run in the 6th inning to tie the game, but Souza Jr hit a walk-off solo home-run in the bottom of the 9th inning to secure the Ray’s victory.  Barnes took the tough loss for the Brewers.

The Brewers had a great week going 4-2.  It would’ve been nice to see them complete the sweep over the Rays, considering how well they pitched all series, but we really can’t get greedy here.  They look to continue their momentum with a  4 game series with the Twins (2 @ Minn, 2 @ Mil).  Go Brewers!
